I remember when I was 17, a few months before SPM, my classmates and I (14 of us) studying very hard, trying to suck up all that important bits before the exam, our class teacher (Math & Add Math teacher), came into the class and announce that day is revision day. We are free to ask her anything about both Math & Add Math.
I hate both subjects. At least before I met this teacher. She is so patient and always giving. She's always ready to answer any questions from us with the utmost patience, that I gradually fell in love with Math. Especially Modern Math la and not the Add Math. Still hate it even just thinking about it. HAHA.
So on that day, I went to see her, and expressed to her my concern about this one chapter in Modern Math that I don't have a clue what its all about. Trust me when I said that she tried her very best to make me understand that particular topic. I gave up.
And said to her, "saya give up Cikgu, topic ni, cikgu ajar saya topic yg lagi satu ni and saya akan pastikan saya belajar sampai sy pandai satu topic ni". My teacher sigh but proceed to teach me that topic that I was so determined to conquer. I did.
On the day that the result came out, I saw her, she handed me my result slip and I can see that she was so proud that I kept my promise. To did it.
To future me, when you are at that point of giving up, try hard to remember that day. The day we promise to ourselves, to try another path if the one we're going through is so damn hard that you feel like giving up. Then it will be ok.
